Lately my Twitter feed has been a source of anxiety and despair, but every so often there are tweets that make me smile:
Jami’s tweet reminded me of two very small but important truths.
First, sack dresses rule. I have owned several over the years in different lengths and fabric types, but my favourite is the one I bought at Muji in Vancouver in 2018. I remember trying it on and not wanting to take it off. In fact, I think I wore it every day for the rest of the my trip and also on the plane ride home.
It’s navy blue, long enough to hide unshaven legs, and has pockets. When you wear it, you feel like you’re wearing nothing because it’s not binding in any way. And then you float around like some sort of artsy crone who has become invisible to men (because you have) and no longer feel pressured to look a certain way.
The second truth is perhaps best explained by a diagram in another tweet I recently came across:
Thing is, I’ve been struggling with burnout for a while now, so I’m afraid this is all I’ve got this week. If you’re feeling like I am, I do suggest putting on a sack and heeding Mary Oliver’s advice to “let the soft animal of your body / love what it loves.” And if you have more in you than I do right now, would you consider spreading that energy around by giving someone a compliment? Be good to yourself. Be good to others.

Jeff stole my thunder! I was totally going to quote that exact line. But I will do it anyway because it literally made me LOL. "And then you float around like some sort of artsy crone who has become invisible to men (because you have)" 😂 A sack dress sounds lovely but I am 5'10" and somehow I don't think that would quite work for me but I'm willing to give it a try if I can find one long enough. OMG this post and those tweets were (chef's kiss).
"And then you float around like some sort of artsy crone who has become invisible to men (because you have)..." A+ line.
