I’m not surprised, not like I was in 2016, but that doesn’t take away the deep disappointment I’m feeling today. I was going to write about something different this week, but everything feels kind of pointless right now, and all I could think of was this post I wrote four years ago:
> CD #5: In praise of cardigans
At what feels like the end of the world, in the time of COVID, just before the most nerve-wracking U.S. election ever, I am sitting in my closet looking for something to wear that will help buffer against the chaos of modern life. I grab a cardigan, the most comforting piece of clothing I can think of.
Please read it and know that, even after all that’s happened, I still believe in cardigans, in softness, in looking for the good…
Also, here is a maple tree I saw in Vancouver a couple weeks ago, preparing for the dark times ahead.

Also, part of a poem:
On the last day of the world
I would want to plant a treewhat for
not the fruit
from “Place” by W.S. Merwin
Also, everything that Aubrey says.

This poem fragment made me choke up 🥲. I too am deeply disappointed, and processing many feelings. I imagine it must be in some ways even more distressing to you friends up north as you can’t do anything about it. But at least you don’t have to live directly with him 🫤. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Thank you for the cardigan thoughts!
