I have written previously about how I love a good ceremony, but that was before the prospect of attending my firstborn’s Grade 6 farewell celebration tomorrow. Help! My baby is disappearing! How do parents do this, just let these little creatures blast into our lives, ransacking everything, including our hearts, only to have them suddenly turn into real people with opinions and a trajectory that moves them further and further away from us with each passing day? Huge shoulder pads! I can picture it. We did not have ceremonies for anything until 12th grade. Then my daughter had them for 6th, 8th, and 12th grade promotions/graduation. I remember being at my wit’s end trying to find something appropriate for her 6th grade ceremony. Not too little-kid-ish but not too teenagerish. Target was a bust and nothing else local had anything so we drove to the mall 25 miles away and found exactly one dress at a Justice store that might work. Fortunately she liked it. I was relieved when an H&M and Kohl’s opened up closer to us for some of her older grade clothes. Now she’s adulting on her own! It does go by fast. Enjoy your summer off 😊
